PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a positioning device capable of shortening a motor stop time even if using a servo amplifier with a communication function, and to provide a cycle time shortening method therefor. SOLUTION: A controller 2 has: a learning part 21 deciding a time point before an n (n = a positive integer) communication period of a time point when recognizing a stop of a servo motor 5; a position deviation amount storage part 22 storing a position deviation amount at the time point which the learning part 21 decides as the time point before the n communication period before the servo motor 5 stops; and a position deviation amount comparison part 23 comparing a present position deviation amount with the position deviation amount stored in the position deviation amount storage part 22. When the position deviation amount comparison part 23 decides that the present position deviation amount reaches the deviation amount before the n communication period of the time point when the servo motor 5 stops, movement completion is notified to a host 5.
