PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem wherein white electrophoretic particles, manufactured by the conventional method of grafting polymer chains on surfaces of pigment particles by using atom transfer radical polymerization, discolor due to remaining catalyst used in the polymerization. SOLUTION: The polymer chains to impart dispersibility and an electrostatic properties to the surfaces of the pigment particles are precisely formed by nitroxide-borne polymerization without using catalyst which causes discoloration, and as a result, the electrophoretic particles superior in dispersibility, electrostatic properties and clarity than the conventional electrophoretic particles are obtained, and a method for manufacturing the electrophoretic particles is obtained.
