PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new optically active polymaleimide derivative, to provide an optical isomer-separating agent comprising the polymer and enabling the employment of wide eluting agents, and to provide a method for separating the optically isomer. SOLUTION: This optically active polymaleimide derivative is characterized by being represented by the general formula (1) [R1is an aryl or cycloalkyl; R2is a 1 to 6C methylene; R3is a 1 to 8C aliphatic hydrocarbon group; (n) is 2 to 10,000; * exhibits an optically active carbon].
