<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the degrees of freedom of adjusting attenuation, by adjusting the hole diameter or the inter-hole distance of an air clad of a photonic crystal fiber, or the mode field diameter, for example, and to surely cut off fiber fusing phenomenon, by arranging and using the attenuator in the middle of a transmission line. <P>SOLUTION: This optical attenuator 1 is composed of a photonic crystal fiber, with the attenuation adjusted by adjusting the hole diameter or the inter-hole distance of the air clad of the photonic crystal fiber. The attenuator is also composed so that the attenuation is adjustable by variously setting the size of a mode field diameter, too. In addition, the optical attenuator 1 is designed to cut off the fiber fuse phenomenon generated in a transmission line, by arranging and using the attenuator in the middle of a single-mode fiber 2 as a transmission line. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
