METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR HARDENING OUTER PERIPHERY OF REDUCING SHAFT MEMBER BY INDUCTION HEATING

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for hardening the outer periphery of a reducing shaft member by an induction heating by which the uniform hardening hardness can be obtained by an inexpensive and simple apparatus by simply changing cooling liquid amount according to the hardening portion.

SOLUTION: In the hardening to the outer periphery of the reducing shaft member by the induction heating by heating and cooling while relatively shifting a heating coil 1 and a spout-cooling means 2 to the shaft member W to be hardened, the obstructs to the uniform cooling and the heating coil, are prevented by heating and cool-hardening while controlling so as to increase the cooling liquid amount of the spout-cooling means 2 in the diameter-different part B'where is difficult to be cooled and to decrease the cooling liquid amount in the diameter-different part C' where is easy to be cooled.
