<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To flexibly manage snapshots of a plurality of generations of an input and output device even if not changing the configuration definition of the input and output device in a main frame. <P>SOLUTION: This storage system has the main frame 1 that is a host device, and a disk array system 2 connected to the main frame 1 having a plurality of logical volumes (LDEVs) 30. The main frame 1 has an input and output device configuration definition information storage part 14 storing an address of an LDEV 30a. The main frame 1 refers to the input and output device configuration definition information storage part 14, designates the address of the LDEV 30a, and issues a command performing an instruction so as to back up the LDEV 30a.
