PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming device, in which fixability can be more improved than heretofore in a configuration to preheat a sheet prior to fixing. SOLUTION: In a printer constituted to fix unfixed images formed on the sheet after preheating the images, the average density of a rectangular region, corresponding to a thermopile detection region among the images to be formed at a first page, is calculated (S 14). The surface temperature of the rectangular region of the first page after the preheating is detected by the thermopile (S 15), The detected value is corrected based on the average density (S 16). Namely, how much the detected value is raised by the temperature difference, arising between the image of the rectangular region and a sheet ground, is determined from the difference between the average density of the image and the density of the sheet ground; and the determined value is subtracted from the actual detected value. As a result, the detected value of the surface temperature of the rectangular region is converted to the detected value of the surface temperature of the sheet ground and the sheet temperature can be exactly detected, regardless of the image density.
