PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a folding type writing utensil, when not in use such as during its transportation, which can be made into a compact shape, when in use, which can ensure a size convenient to use by unfolding and, at the same time, can make the retracting and extending operation of a writing shaft body unnecessary. SOLUTION: A preceding body 10 holding the writing shaft body 30 therein and a following body 20 are flexibly combined with each other. When the preceding body 10 and the following body 20 are folded together, the writing shaft body 30 is positioned to its retracted position so as to retract in the preceding body 10. When the preceding body 10 and the following body 20 are unfolded, the writing shaft body 30 is positioned to its advanced position so as to project through the tip opening 10a of the preceding body 10.
