PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which can optimize setting of a preheating temperature at waiting. SOLUTION: There are set a printing result totaling means which totals the printing number of papers of a predetermined period of time for every characteristic of printing papers; a temperature table in which set preheating temperatures of a heat fixing part applied for every characteristic of the printing papers are preliminarily defined and stored; a preheating mode shifting means which determines whether or not to shift to a preheating mode and shifts to the preheating mode when a predetermined condition is satisfied; a preheating temperature setting means which specifies the printing paper highly frequently printed within the predetermined period of time, with reference to the totaled result by the printing result totaling means when the preheating mode shifting means shifts to the preheating mode, and which reads out the set preheating temperature applied to the specified printing paper from the temperature table; and a temperature control means which controls the preheating temperature of the heat fixing part in the preheating mode on the basis of the set preheating temperature read from the temperature table.
