A nuclear fusion process includes overcoming the coulombic repulsion of one of the impact partners by firing heavy ions at it. The ions are of a multi-shell target, and are accelerated to speeds greater than light. The partners are accelerated before impact, and 2n impact partners are guided to the centre of the fusion chamber from opposite directions.
