<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a battery management device in which the power supply level of a power generating means can be regulated even if an idling period is short during an engine start. <P>SOLUTION: In the battery management device, a car navigation unit 3 operates a prediction traveling distance from a current position to a goal, and the charging of a battery 5 is started at a moment when the prediction traveling distance becomes shorter than a predetermined reference distance so that the residual capacity of the battery 5 is secured as much as possible.
