<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for forming an electroconductive membrane in simple processes forming the electroconductive membrane having high heat resistance and excellent in tight adhesiveness to a substrate surface and durability onto a polyimide substrate surface having low water absorption, a low hygroscopic expansion coefficient and high elasticity, and an electroconductive material prepared by using the method for forming the electroconductive film. <P>SOLUTION: The method for forming the electroconductive membrane comprises a process for forming a graft polymer having functional groups directly bonding to the substrate surface starting from active sites and mutually interacting with an electroless plating catalyst or its precursor by applying energy onto the substrate surface containing a polyimide having at least one structural unit expressed by general formula (1) or general formula (2) and polymerization initiating sites in the skeleton and generating the active sites on the substrate surface, a process for adding the electroless plating catalyst or the precursor to the graft polymer and a process for performing the electroless plating. The electroconductive material is prepared by using the method.
