PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a washing machine including a detachable water processing unit for securing safety even if an installation failure, such as missing of installation of the water processing unit or inappropriate installation thereof, is caused. SOLUTION: The washing machine 1 includes a water tub 20 and a washing tub 30, and washing water is stored in the water tub 20 for washing. Openable/closable water supply valve 50 is provided at a water intake passage from outside, and water through the water supply valve 50 is fed to the water tub 20 from a water inlet 53. A water supply passage 52 from the water supply valve 50 to the water inlet 53 is detachably installed with the water processing unit 100 for processing washing water or rinsing water. An installation state of the water processing unit 100 is checked by a sensing means 190, a control portion 80 controls the operation of the washing machine 1 on the basis of the detection result of the sensing means 190.
