PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce sizes of a dichroic mirror and a wheel which are disposed in a light path while the white light and the excitation light enter a light guide at an incident angle matching the NA of the light guide. SOLUTION: A light source for an endoscope 1 includes a white light source 10, a reflector 11 which changes the white light to an approximate parallel beams, an afocal optical system 20 to reduce the pupil magnification of the parallel light of the white light, a condenser lens 30 which condenses the white light with the reduced pupil magnification to enter the light guide 40, a semiconductor laser 50 to emit the excitation light, a coupler lens 51, a light guide for the excitation light 52, a collimator lens 53 which changes the excitation light emitted from the light guide for the excitation light 52 to the parallel light. The dichroic mirror 61 compounds the light path of the white light and the light path of the excitation light.
