An air intake device of an internal combustion engine enabling both an increase in intake efficiency and a reduction in size, wherein an air cleaner (9) is formed by detachably joining an upper case (11) to a lower case (10) with a filter element (12) held therebetween, an atmospheric air lead-in pipeline (14) to the air cleaner, an intake pipeline (15) from the air cleaner to an intake manifold are installed in the internal combustion engine having the intake manifold (6) installed on the longitudinal side-face (4a) of a cylinder head (4) and a head cover (5) installed on the upper surface of the cylinder head (4). The air cleaner is disposed at one end part of the head cover in the axial direction of a crank so that the lower case of the air cleaner is vertically overlapped with the head cover. The atmospheric air lead-in pipeline is disposed at the upper part of the head cover so as to be extended along the upper surface of the head cover in the axial direction of the crank. The intake pipeline is disposed along the upper surface of the head cover without being overlapped with the atmospheric air lead-in pipeline so as to be extended to the intake manifold.
