PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic focusing system, wherein it is made impossible to change an AF area when a camera not having a function of displaying AF area information, such as an AF frame in a view finder, and wherein a failure is prevented when the AF area is changed without being able to recognize the range of the AF area, when the automatic focusing system capable of changing the extent of the AF area as an automatic focusing (AF) range is constructed. SOLUTION: Whether the camera 10 has the function of displaying the range of the AF area as the AF area information, such as the AF frame is automatically decided by a CPU 30 for a lens apparatus 12, and then, the changeover is performed by the CPU 30 so as to change or not to change the range of the AF area.
