PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an EL element capable of improving a short circuit problem by embedding a filler in a porous part or a crack part of a dielectric layer. SOLUTION: This EL element 10 includes at least the dielectric layer 1 and a luminescent layer 15 between two electrodes 12 and 17 facing to each other. In the EL element, an electrically insulating substance 2 is embedded in space parts of the dielectric layer 1. In a manufacturing method of the EL element, an electrically insulating liquid substance is applied to the dielectric layer to embed the space parts, and the insulating substance is solidified by drying and burning it. Thereby, the EL element without causing a short circuit can be provided by eliminating defects of the dielectric layer. In addition, the surface of the dielectric layer can be smoothed even if it is in an uneven state. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
