In a process to recover metals and/or metal oxides, e.g. Zn and Fe arising from steel dust particles, the dust particles are transported in gas into a burner chamber and made molten under oxidising conditions. Volatile halogens are exhausted from the burner chamber. Now generally free of halogens, the residual oxidised molten metal is discharged and reduced in an iron bath reactor with greater than 1.5 wt. % carbon, and the volatile metal vapours, e.g. Zn, are exhausted.
|
