<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink composition which shows a successful image quality even in rapid/high density image recording, especially is almost free from a beading and a bleeding phenomenon, and exhibits excellent discharge stability, and an ink set and an image recording method using the ink set. <P>SOLUTION: This ink composition is used in an imaging device which forms an image with not less than 650 dpi pixel density and not less than 0.5 m<SP>2</SP>/min recording rate by impacting ink droplets onto a printing medium with an image receiving layer. In addition, the ink composition shows a ratio of surface tension to viscosity (surface tension/viscosity) of not less than 5. The ink set is used in the imaging device, shows a ratio of surface tension to viscosity (surface tension/viscosity) of not less than 5 and contains at least two kinds of ink compositions which are different in the above ratio (surface tension/viscosity) from each other. The image recording method uses the ink composition and impacts its ink droplets onto the printing medium with the image receiving layer.
