PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for stably manufacturing an aqueous resin dispersion which comprises a fatty acid component and exhibits a good film-forming property and good water resistance. SOLUTION: The manufacturing method of the aqueous resin dispersion comprises finely dispersing a monomer mixture (I) comprising a fatty acid-modified polymerizable unsaturated monomer (A) and other polymerizable unsaturated monomers (B) copolymerizable with the monomer (A) in an aqueous medium so that the average particle size is at most 500 nm, polymerizing the resultant emulsion to give a dispersion, adding to the thus-obtained dispersion a monomer component (II) comprising a polymerizable unsaturated monomer (C), and further proceeding polymerization.
