PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To further save the installation space for a cooling bed, which can cool steel materials different in size and is provided with two or more kinds of movable rake groups. SOLUTION: The cooling bed cools steel billets 4a, 4b while carrying them by elliptical movement of the paired rake groups. Two or more kinds of paired rake groups different in groove pitches are alternatively arranged. The paired rake groups 11, 12 and 13, 14 are provided with: a height adjusting means for making difference in the heights, at which steel billets 4a, 4b are held on the paired rake groups 11, 12 and 13, 14 respectively; and a moving means for moving the paired rake groups 11, 12 and 13, 14 in different elliptical motions.
