A digital broadcasting receiver and a method for processing a stream of a digital broadcasting receiver are provided. The receiver includes a demodulator for receiving and demodulating a transport stream comprising kno wn data, a supplementary data stream, and information regarding the known data, a known data detector for detecting the known data from the transport stream using the information regarding the known data, and an equalizer for equalizing th e demodulated transport stream using the known data. The transport stream is transmitted from a digital broadcasting transmitter comprising a Trellis encoder for performing Trellis encoding using internal memories and resetting internal memories at a predetermined point of time according to a control signal to control a Trellis reset process. The supplementary data stream is processed to be robust against errors by the digital broadcasting transmitter.
