PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multiple-phase motor capable of suppressing the higher harmonic components of a rotating magnetic field, and of improving the manufacturing efficiency, by facilitating mounting work of a coil conductor to a closed-slot stator (a stator). SOLUTION: Fully-enclosed and deep-grooved coil slots Sa1-Sc2 are provided near the inner periphery in the stator 1 of the multi-phase motor M. The inner peripheral side of the slot cross section is formed into a tapered shape; the wide bottom part on the outer peripheral side of the slot cross-section is formed into a rectangular shape; bar-like conductor parts 3a2 and 3a4, 3b2 and 3b4, and 3c2 and 3c4 of a stator coil 3 are incorporated into the slot bottom part (a round-shape bar-like conductor may be incorporated by making the slot bottom part circular in shape); coil occupancy in each slot is increased; and the interval between adjacent slots of the stator 1 is expanded. A rotor 2 is a columnar solid rotor having high magnetic permeability and low resistance. High-strength steel is used for a part near the axis center X. Chamfering is applied to the outer peripheral edge of a short-circuiting ring, and strength with respect to the centrifugal force generated by high-speed rotation is enhanced. A magnetic flux distribution can be made close to a sine wave by the increase in the number of phases of five phases or more, even if driven with a square wave without PWM control by a high-frequency inverter in the stator coil 3.
