<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an antibacterial composition having a high safety, and without affecting the original smell or taste of a food or beverage, a medicine, an oral hygienic agent, and the like. <P>SOLUTION: This antibacterial composition consisting of a solvent extract of Syzygium malaccensis seeds and/or Euphoria longana seeds can inhibit the propagation of bacteria becoming a cause of a food poisoning, the deterioration of a food, cosmetic and medicine, and infectious diseases by adding it into the food, or the like. Since especially it shows a marked effect on thermodulic spore-forming bacteria (such as Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus cereus, and the like), it is suitable as a preserving agent of a food, beverage, or the like.
