PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a notification method for map data update status capable of plainly notifying a user, when a time limit for shifting from a free period to a charged period is approached, which map area has not been updated yet. SOLUTION: In the notification method, an e-mail is transmitted to the user who is within a prescribed shifting period, and a shifting time limit notification picture (a) is displayed. When a link 31 is clicked, the user is identified based on the recorded URL, and a non-updated area picture (b) is displayed based on the user's map data update history. When the non-updated map area 33 is clicked, an itemized picture (c) with respect to the map area is displayed. When an update button 34 is clicked, a confirmation picture (d) is displayed.
