PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive exhaust pipe structure for an internal combustion engine, capable of reducing exhaust noise of large volume at start of the engine and having a simple structure, even when the exhaust pipe structure has an exhaust muffler which is small due to limitation of an installation space in an engine room etc. SOLUTION: In the exhaust pipe structure of the internal combustion engine, an exhaust passage is equipped with the muffler, and an exhaust pipe 3 communicated and connected with the muffler is arranged, so as to penetrate through a body (hull S) on which the internal combustion engine is mounted, from inside of the hull S to outside. The exhaust pipe structure for the internal combustion engine is provided with a valve system 10 provided in an end part in an exhaust outlet side of the exhaust pipe 3 and changing an exhaust passage area of the exhaust pipe 3; an actuator 4 for actuating the valve system 10; and a control means for controlling the valve system 10 via the actuator 4.
