PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a substantially non-twisted carbon fiber which has both an improved tensile elastic modulus and an improved compression strength, highly harmonized physical values, and simultaneously an excellent fuzz grade, and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: This substantially non-twisted carbon fiber is characterized by satisfying an expression (1): 230×10<SP>3</SP>≤E×C÷Lc≤400×10<SP>3</SP>[E(GPa) is a tensile elastic modulus; Lc is a crystal size; and C (MPa) is a compression strength of one direction composite made from the carbon fiber in the direction of 0°] or an expression (2): 1,150×10<SP>3</SP>≤E×F÷Lc≤1,800×10<SP>3</SP>[E(GPa) is a tensile elastic modulus; Lc (nm) is a crystal size; F(MPa) is a single fiber compression strength], and having an abraded fuzz rate of≤10 fuzzes/m.
