PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide high strength steel for a large-sized steel forging which is inexpensive compared with 3.5NiCrMo steel proposed as high strength steel for an Ni-Cr-Mo steel forging and further has excellent strength and toughness compared with DIN standard 34CrNiMo6 or the like which has been put to practical use, and to provide an inexpensive large-sized crankshaft having excellent strength and toughness obtained by using the high strength steel for a large-sized steel forging. SOLUTION: The high strength steel for large-sized steel forging contains, by mass, 0.30 to 0.50% C, >0.15 to 0.40% Si, 0.80 to 1.20% Mn, 0.80 to 2.5% Ni, 1.0 to 3.0% Cr, 0.35 to 0.70% Mo and 0.10 to 0.25% V, respectively, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities.
