PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fabric for an automobile capable of lowering the toxicity of a combustion gas occurring at the time of combustion while almost keeping or enhancing durability such as abrasion resistance or the like or fire retardancy and suitably used as a seat skin or a door trim decorative fabric. SOLUTION: The fabric for the automobile has a structure wherein a fabric backing material is provided on the back of a fabric main body. The fabric backing material contains an organic fiber leaving an ash component being a non-combustible mineral substance left after coal or charcoal is burnt out when burnt alone and one of or both of a urethane resin and an acrylic resin.
