摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a positive electrode active material with large discharge capacity and a manufacturing method thereof, and an alkaline battery. <P>SOLUTION: The positive electrode active material for the alkaline battery has a laminated crystal structure containing oxy-hydroxylation nickel. The positive electrode active material has a diffraction peak at 8.4-10.4&deg; of a diffraction angle 2&theta; in X-ray diffraction by a CuK&alpha; ray. The alkaline battery has a positive electrode containing the positive electrode active material, a cathode electrode containing a cathode active material, and an alkaline water solution as an electrolyte. The alkaline battery contains the positive electrode active material with a specified diffraction peak, as the positive electrode active material. The manufacturing method of the positive electrode active material is also provided for the alkaline battery having the laminated crystal structure. The manufacturing method comprises an oxidation process for oxidizing a starting material with the laminated crystal structure consisting of a &beta;-type hydroxylation nickel, in an air current containing an alkaline water solution or an alkali to form the positive electrode active material. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
