PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for managing a color pallet etc., adapted to eliminate the need for rewriting the contents of the color pallet. SOLUTION: Differential data which is the data of only the portion different from the contents of the color pallet 15 is arranged in a header section of image data and the differential data read out of the header section is stored into a buffer 32 for the differential data. And a reference pallet switching section 31 switches a reference destination. More specifically, the color pallet 15 is referenced when a layer L 2 is displayed. On the other hand, a buffer 32 for the differential data is first referenced when a layer L 3 is displayed and if there is no data corresponding thereto, the color pallet 15 is next referenced. Then, there is no need for rewriting the memory contents of an SRAM which is the color pallet 15 and therefore the need for considering the time required for the rewriting is eliminated.
