PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a zinc tungstate single crystal which is reduced in the damage caused by radiation with the elapse of time and exhibits reduced afterglow, when used as a single crystal for a radiation detector; and to provide its production method. SOLUTION: The zinc tungstate single crystal is characterized in that it contains sodium.
