<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for easily and accurately extracting a coastline by using a digital image. <P>SOLUTION: After an image in an aerial photo is read in a step S301, differences between adjacent pixels are taken to determine boundaries of brightness distributions in a step S304. Next, difference value image data is compared with a proper threshold and binarized to extract only pixels close to the coastline in a step S305.
