摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical pickup and phase modulation apparatus in which influence by a defective converged spot caused by existence of a power feeding wire of a liquid crystal element for phase modulation can be suppressed to the minimum. <P>SOLUTION: In the optical pickup provided with a light source emitting light for a rotated optical recording medium, a photodetector detecting reflected light of light emitted to the optical recording medium from the light source, and a first liquid crystal element for phase modulation having a first electrode 58 and first power feeding wires 51, 52 connected electrically to the first electrode 58, the first power feeding wires 51, 52 are arranged so that regions corresponding to the first power feeding wires 51, 52 are positioned in the optical spot irradiated to the optical recording medium and they are positioned at a direction between a rotation direction (tangential direction) 80 and a radial direction (radial direction) 81 of the optical recording direction in the light spot. Thereby, reduction of resolution in the rotation direction and the radial direction of the light spot can be suppressed as much as possible, influence by the defective light spot caused by existence of the first power feeding wires 51, 52 can be suppressed to the minimum. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
