PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrodeless discharge lamp lighting device where stable discharge can be maintained. SOLUTION: The electrodeless discharge lamp lighting device comprises a translucent discharge bulb 120, an induction coil composed of a core 103 and a coil 104, and a lighting circuit 140 for supplying high-frequency power to the induction coil. The operating frequency of the lighting circuit 140 is in the range of 80 to 500 kHz. When the operating frequency of the lighting circuit 140 is f(kHz), and the electric input to the discharge bulb 120 is P(W); the pressure p(Pa) of a rare gas in the discharge bulb 120 satisfies the relationship of equation (where A, B, and C are constants, A=4.0×10<SP>4</SP>, B=3.5×10<SP>4</SP>, and C=6.2), and the electric input P to the discharge bulb 120 is 7 W at a minimum and 22 W at a maximum.
