PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotary kiln type heat treatment device, in which treatment space can be easily adjusted to have the optimum atmosphere in accordance with contents to be treated, so that high treatment efficiency and heat energy efficiency can be provided. SOLUTION: A heating gas passage 15 is formed between an inner cylinder 11 that is driven to rotate and an outer cylinder 12 in a rotary kiln for heating subject matter D1 while it is carried. A hollow agitating shaft 2 rotating relatively to the inner cylinder 11 is disposed along the axial center of the rotary kiln 1. The agitating shaft 2 composes a heating gas conduit 20. A gas supply means 5 is provided to supply heating gas to the heating gas passage 15 and the heating gas conduit 20. Cylindrical agitating blades 21 are formed at a plurality of lengthwise positions in the agitating shaft 2 to radially protrude. In a circumferential surface of each agitating blade 21, a number of ventilation holes 22 are provided to emit heating gas S2 supplied to the agitating shaft 2 into the treatment space 10 in the inner cylinder 11.
