Automated system to detect cow udder inflammation samples first milk discharge for optical flake examination

A cattle milking parlour has automated milking equipment that samples the first few drops of milk and places them on a clean reflective surface. The milk is examined by an automated optical assembly for flakes which are indicative of udder inflammation. The presence of flakes is revealed by optical roughness.
