The invention relates to a stopper (1) for the neck (5) of a standard bottle, typically a champagne bottle having a capacity of at least 50 cm<3> and used to contain wine under high pressure, typically champagne. Said stopper comprises: a) a shell (2) provided with a head (20) and a skirt (21) of an internal thread (23), b) a threaded ring (3) comprising an external thread (30) which co-operates with the internal thread (23), said threaded ring co-operating with a hollow annular region (51) of the neck (5) in such a way as to be fixed to the neck (5), and c) a seal (4) for ensuring that the neck (5) is tightly stopped. The inventive stopper (1) is advantageous in relation to the traditional cork in that it is easy to mount on the neck (5) of the bottle, the shell (2) is easy to unscrew and screw up, and cork is no longer required.
