A security device for a means of transport, e.g. a road vehicle, comprises a radiation source 1 to direct radiation towards the eye of a person intending to take control of the means of transport, a receiver arrangement 9 to receive radiation reflected from the eye of the person and generates data signals 7, 8, 22 indicative of biometric information relating to the person, and a comparator arrangement 10 to compare said data signals with corresponding predetermined signals stored in memory and to generate output signals 13, 16, 25, the device further comprising an alarm unit 18 to generate an alarm and/or an immobiliser unit 17 to immobilise the means of transport, the or each unit being responsive to said output signals. The data signals may be in the form of an image of the iris of the driver's eye to establish driver identity, pupillometer measurements to assess drowsiness of the driver or spectral measurements to detect the presence of drugs or alcohol in the driver's bloodstream or the driver's blood sugar level.
