A power converter comprises multiple transformers connected in series to the secondary winding of a series transformer the primary winding of which is connected in series to the power system, normally-closed switches connected in series to the primary windings of the multiple transformers, normally-open current bypass devices each connected in parallel to a series circuit composed of the corresponding primary winding of the multiple transformers and the switches connected to both ends of the primary winding, AC-DC converter units the AC side of each of which is connected to the corresponding secondary winding of the multiple transformers, and DC circuits each connected to the DC side of the corresponding AC-DC converter unit and independent of one another. When the current bypass device of the primary winding of a specific one of the multiple transformers is closed, the switches on both sides of the primary winding are opened, thereby separating the specific one of the multiple transformers from the corresponding AC-DC converter unit. Thus, even if a partial failure occurs, the apparatus can be operated.
|
