<p>Water-based metal working compositions comprise (a) a salt of a multivalent metal and an ester of dithiophosphoric acid; (b) a reaction product of a fatty acid and an amino-alcohol; (c) an aminoalcohol; (d) a naphthenic acid; (e) a water-soluble nitrite; and (f) a solubilizer. Typical ingredients (a)-(f) are as follows: (a) zinc propyl hexyl dithiophosphate, zinc butyl amyl dithiophosphate, and zinc didoceyl dithiophosphate; (b) the reaction product of a technical C17 unsaturated fatty acid mixture and a mixture of mono-, di- and tri-ethanolamines; (c) triethanolamine and monoethanoldibutylamine; (d) commercial naphthenic acids with acid values in the range 70-350 mg. KOH/g.; (e) KNO2, NaNO2, NH4NO2 and dicyclohexylammonium nitrite; and (f) condensation products of ethylene oxide or propylene oxide with C6-22 alkylamines. The compositions may also contain a lubricating oil, e.g. a refined oil of viscosity 40-200 seconds Redwood I at 140 DEG F.</p> |
