The process involves associating with each wavelength (lambda i) of a multiplex, a specific physical code (Ci) of code division multiple access (CDMA) type. Each specific code is introduced in a sequence of data (SD1-SDn) to be transmitted at a specific wavelength (lambda i) associated to the code (Ci). The sequence of data contains useful data to be transmitted and/or management data. Independent claims are also included for the following: (A) a wavelength discriminating system (B) application of a wavelength discriminating system with supervision operations in a wavelength division multiplexed data transmission system (C) a module for coding different sequences of data to be transmitted over different wavelengths.
