#CMT# #/CMT# The device has a set of gate and data lines crossing each other on a substrate for defining a set of pixel regions. A common electrode (105) is formed on the pixel region, where the electrodes are shaped such that an upper surface area is different than a lower surface area. A pixel electrode is positioned adjacent to each of the common electrode on the pixel region, and a liquid crystal layer is placed between the substrates. #CMT# : #/CMT# An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing an in-plane switching (IPS) mode LCD device comprising a gate line on a substrate. #CMT#USE : #/CMT# Used in a computer monitor and a television. #CMT#ADVANTAGE : #/CMT# The common electrode and the pixel electrode are shaped such that the upper surface area is different than the lower surface area, thus effectively generating parallel electric field between the electrodes, thereby increasing the portions driven by the parallel electric field, and hence effectively decreasing the power consumption and improving the light efficiency. #CMT#DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS : #/CMT# The drawing shows a cross sectional view of an in-plane switching mode LCD device. 100 : Lower substrate 104 : Pixel electrode 105 : Common electrode 200 : Upper substrate.
|
