PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an additive for papermaking composed of an aqueous solution of a polyacrylamide-based polymer obtained by radical polymerization and excellent in storage stability and to provide a paper in which paper strength is improved by adding the additive. SOLUTION: The additive (A) for papermaking contains L-ascorbic acid, its isomer or a salt thereof in an aqueous solution of a polyacrylamide-based polymer (B) obtained by radical polymerization.
