Measuring instrument has a light source and a reception and evaluation unit (14) for light reflected from a mobile or fixed structure. A transmitted light beam is conducted over an optical divider, a fiber-optic cable and a transmitting/receiving unit through a measuring pipe. The transmitted light beam is conducted over a deflection unit in the pipe while a modified reflected light arrives at the unit (14) in a reverse direction.
