This invention relates to a method and a system for digital content sharing between individual users (10) in a peer-to-peer fashion, wherein each user (10) is connected to a respective local access network (12) through a transport network (16). The method and system are characterised by providing local network storage areas (32) associated to each user (10) arranged for archiving digital contents, and by carrying out the transferring of contents via the transport network (16) from a storage area (32a) associated to a user (10a) holding requested contents to a remote network storage area (32d) associated to a requesting user (10d) on a different access network (12), according to the connectivity available on the transport network (16). The shared contents are made available for access by the requesting user (10d) on its local network storage area (32d). The invention relates also to a telecommunications network architecture comprising the system, so as to a plurality of services of content sharing between pairs of individual users implementing the above-mentioned method.
