DECODING APPARATUS AND METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a decoding apparatus capable of reproducing coded data at an optional high speed.

SOLUTION: The decoding apparatus for decoding coded data in a prescribed coding processing unit comprising a plurality of frames and obtained by referencing other data in the coding processing unit so as to carry out prediction coding, is provided with: a read control means for reading the coded data from a recording medium at a designated reproduction rate; a distribution means for distributing the coded data read from the recording medium to decoding means whose number is in response to a reproduction rate designated in a prescribed decoding processing unit capable of finally carrying out the decoding processing; and a reproduced image data generating means for generating image data of a reproduced image at a designated reproduction rate on the basis of the coded data subjected to the decoding processing by each of the decoding means.
