PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve transfer and cleaning properties without collapse/void of toner images, such as character and lines. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus has an intermediate transfer member having an elastic layer, a transfer means for forming a transfer nip with the intermediate transfer member and transferring the toner image onto the intermediate transfer member, a heating means for heating an intermediate transfer belt, a cooling means for cooling the same, and a cleaning means for cleaning the belt by abutting on the cooling means.
