PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader capable of switching one-side reading and double-side reading on the way of a series of reading operations. SOLUTION: Marking for distinguishing a double-side original from a one-side original is applied to an original, and when an image reader detects the marking and the marking indicates the double-side original, the image reader drives a CCD and a CIS to read images on the front side and the rear side of the double-side original at the same time, and stores image data, and when the marking indicates the one-side original, the image reader drives only the CCD, and reads the image on the front side to store the image data.
