PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical module etc., which can be easily drawn out forwards even when being arranged adjacently in the vertical direction. SOLUTION: The optical module 1 has a case 11 for incorporating an element for optical communication, and a lock part 17 which locks the case 11 to a lock hole 19 on a cage 2 for housing the case 11 is disposed on the case 11. The optical module 1 comprises a lock release mechanism 20 which contains a slide member 21 of releasing the lock state between the lock hole 19 and the lock part 17 and a lever 22 which is rotatably disposed on the front end surface side of the case 11. The slide member 21 is constituted so as to release the lock state between the lock hole 19 and the lock part 17 when the lever 22 is drawn in the direction of taking out the case 11 from the cage 2. The lever 22 has a finger hook part 22a as a first operation part which is located on the upper part of the lever 22 and an operation part 51 constituted with an operation member 50 as a second operation part located on the front side of the front end surface of the case 11.
